Course Overview

The Interactive Digital Media Level 3 Extended Diploma supports you to develop creative and technical skills for producing digital content in a fast‑moving online world. It is suitable if you are interested in social media, digital platforms and online engagement, and want to understand how digital content is created and used by organisations to reach and connect with audiences.

Throughout the course, you can learn how digital media content is planned, created and shared across a wide range of platforms, including social media and emerging digital channels. Learning focuses on moving from consumer to creator, helping you understand how trends, viral content and audience engagement work, and how attention is used as a key asset in modern digital communication.

You will work with industry‑standard tools and systems to develop skills in areas such as digital design, video production and editing, content creation and audience analysis. The course also explores digital marketing techniques, including search engine optimisation, paid advertising, e‑commerce and online public relations, building a broad and flexible digital skill set. Opportunities to respond to live briefs and work with organisations from different sectors help you understand how digital media skills are applied in real contexts.

By the end of the course, you will have developed creativity, adaptability and a strong understanding of interactive digital media, supporting progression into further study or a range of digital, media and marketing‑related pathways.

Entry Requirements

To study this course, you will need four GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above, which must include Maths and English, or a Level 2 qualification. You will be asked to provide evidence of your ability in the subject, which could be in the form of a portfolio. Ideally, you will also have working knowledge of all social media platforms and Adobe software. Applicants will be required to successfully attend an interview.

Assessment and Feedback

You will be assessed through portfolio based submissions, research experimentation and development, course work throughout each project in various formats , including written text images video's vlogs and digital files. The second year will be split into three projects combining practical and theoretical understanding while demonstrating the skills developed throughout the previous year.

This course is free to UK learners under 19 who are not in employment.

Future study/career options

Students could progress onto the following courses: Additional further education diplomas, Degree courses within higher education, Level 4 professional diploma, or an apprenticeship. You may also choose to go into full-time employment or the self-employed sector. This qualification has been developed in collaboration with subject practitioners and further education colleges to ensure that it provides learners with the skills knowledge and understanding needed to prepare learners for employment and/or support a role in the workplace. Potential job roles following this course could be: Content creators, Influencers, Social media managers, Vloggers, You tubers, Digital media marketeers, or roles in video and radio production, or graphic design.
