Course Overview
The Introduction to Media Art and Design and Esports Level 1 Diploma supports you to explore creative and digital subjects through practical, hands‑on learning. It is suitable if you are progressing from pathways or ESOL courses, or if you are unsure of your next step after Key Stage 4 and want a supportive starting point within creative and digital industries.
Throughout the course, you can explore the fundamentals of animation, game design and esports through engaging project‑based activities. Learning focuses on developing basic technical and creative skills while also building confidence, teamwork and communication. You will work with different materials, processes and creative ideas, helping you understand how media, art and design concepts are developed and expressed.
The course also supports contextual research and communication skills, helping you understand how ideas are informed, shared and developed within creative work. You will use both existing and newly developed skills to explore 2D, 3D and time‑based creative activities, allowing you to identify your strengths and interests across creative media and design. Alongside creative study, you may have the opportunity to work towards Level 1 English and maths qualifications, supporting progression to further study.
By the end of the course, you will have developed a foundation of creative, technical and transferable skills that support progression to Level 2 courses such as GCSEs or vocational diplomas in areas including games, animation, art and design, media or esports. This course is delivered at our Centre for Digital Technologies in Basildon.
