L3 Launching a Business in Games Animation and Esports

The Launching a Business in Games, Animation and Esports course supports you to develop and deliver a creative project over an academic year, focused on turning an idea into a finished media product. It is suitable if you are interested in games development, animation, esports or related creative industries and want to explore how creative work can be planned, produced and presented in a professional context. 

Throughout the programme, you will work on an extended project, developing a game, animation, esports experience or media‑based outcome from initial concept through to completion. Learning focuses on research, planning, critical thinking and creative decision‑making, helping you understand how ideas are shaped, tested and refined to reflect your intended career direction within areas such as games, animation, concept art, VFX or esports. Alongside creative production, you will explore how projects are marketed and presented to audiences. 

This includes developing an understanding of branding, promotion and audience engagement, supporting you to think about how creative work is positioned and communicated. You will also develop transferable skills such as project management, teamwork and reflection, which are essential across creative and digital industries. 

The course also integrates maths and English through practical activities such as budgeting, evaluating outcomes and producing written or visual reports. You will have flexibility in how you present your work, with opportunities to create written reports, creative artefacts or performances, allowing you to work in ways that reflect your strengths. This course is delivered at our Centre for Digital Technologies in Basildon.
