It is suitable for those who are new to the sector and want to develop essential knowledge, confidence and skills before progressing to further study or training.
Throughout the course, learners explore key topics linked to health and social care, including communication, equality and diversity, health and safety and infection control. Learners develop an understanding of how care services are provided and the importance of promoting wellbeing, dignity and respect when supporting individuals in different care settings.
Learners also study human growth and development and gain insight into mental health, helping them understand how people’s needs can change throughout life. Digital skills for work are included to support confidence using technology in care‑related environments, alongside work‑related and community‑based projects that develop teamwork, responsibility and practical awareness.
By the end of the course, learners will have built a foundation of knowledge and transferable skills that support progression into further health and social care study or related Level 2 courses. This qualification provides a positive starting point for learners who want to explore future career pathways within health, care and community services.
