Media and Performing Arts Technician JD
We are looking for a Media, Broadcast & Production Technician to join our team and provide high-quality technical support across our media, broadcast, production and performing arts facilities.

This is an exciting and varied role for someone who enjoys working in a creative, practical environment and is passionate about supporting staff and students. You will play a key role in ensuring our classrooms, TV studio and specialist equipment are safe, well maintained and ready for teaching, learning and production. You will be an organised, proactive and technically confident individual who enjoys solving problems and working with people. You will be comfortable working with a range of technical equipment and able to provide clear, friendly support to both staff and students.
What you’ll be doing
No two days will be the same. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing laptop bookings and preparing equipment for lessons.
- Managing the department's equipment, including checking, cleaning, charging, storing and preparing equipment for use.
- Supporting the TV studio, including set-ups, workshops, lesson support and troubleshooting.
- Delivering and supporting equipment workshops and demonstrations.
- Maintaining equipment stock, consumables and printer supplies.
- Carrying out equipment checks, basic maintenance and minor repairs.
- Supporting the filming of student assessments and the annual Dance Show.
- Helping with practical media and broadcast productions.
- Maintaining tidy, organised and safe classrooms and studios, including routine health and safety checks.
- Supporting Enrolment, Taster Events and other College activities.
- Working closely with colleagues in IT, Estates and other support departments to report and resolve issues.
- Providing lesson cover where required.
- Taking responsibility for departmental First Aid and Fire Marshall duties, subject to appropriate training.
What we're looking for
- A minimum Level 3 qualification, preferably in a relevant technical, media, broadcast, film or production subject.
- Experience of operating and maintaining technical equipment.
- Good IT skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical problems.
- Experience of stock or equipment management.
- An understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Excellent organisation, communication and prioritisation skills.
- A flexible, positive and professional approach.
- A genuine commitment to supporting learners and contributing to their success.
A first aid qualification would be desirable, although training can be provided.
