Whether you would like to speak to someone directly, explore resources in your own time, or receive more structured support through our Education Mental Health Practitioners, we are here to guide you. The sections below will help you understand your options and take the next step with confidence.
What support is available at college?
If you would like to speak to someone directly, our Safeguarding & Wellbeing Team are here for you. They support all students and will take the time to listen and understand what you need.
You can contact them by email at Safeguarding@southessex.ac.uk and a member of the team will be in touch to help you find the right support.
You are not expected to manage everything on your own. Whatever you are facing, there is support available, and we are here to help you move forward with confidence.
Taking care of your mental health is just as important as your academic progress. Seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness, and can make a real difference to your experience at college.
Reaching out is a positive step, and you will be supported along the way.
We have qualified counsellors within the Student Services Team. You can have up to seven sessions with them to talk through issues you may be facing.
If you feel this support would help, contact the Safeguarding & Wellbeing Team at Safeguarding@southessex.ac.uk or through your Moodle account.
At our colleges, students aged up to 18yrs can access support from Education Mental Health Practitioners. EMHPs are part of NHS Mental Health Support Teams, a nationwide initiative that brings together education and healthcare.
Their role is to provide early support; offer practical strategies and help you build the skills you need to manage your wellbeing. They are trained to deliver evidence-based support for young people who may be experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
How EMHPs can support you
There are different ways EMHPs can work with you, depending on what feels right and what will be most helpful.
- Groups and workshops
- Individual work
If you feel this support would help, contact the Safeguarding & Wellbeing Team at Safeguarding@southessex.ac.uk or through your Moodle account.
