Advancing equality, diversity and inclusion at SECG
We recognise the inequalities that can affect students and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds, as well as those with disabilities and accessibility needs. Our commitment is to ensure that every individual at SECG feels seen, supported and able to achieve their full potential.
Through the AoC EDI Charter, our leadership team is taking a proactive role in setting measurable equality, diversity and inclusion goals, evaluating our current landscape and ensuring inclusive practices are embedded within our curriculum, policies and support services.
What this means for our college community
A more inclusive curriculum
We will continue to develop our curriculum to reflect diverse perspectives and cultural heritage, helping all students see themselves represented in their learning.
Improved student outcomes
By identifying and addressing barriers to success, we aim to improve retention and achievement rates for students from underrepresented backgrounds.
Empowered staff and leadership
Staff will receive training, guidance and support to help create and sustain an inclusive culture. Opportunities for professional development, collaboration and leadership will continue to be strengthened.
Stronger community engagement
We will continue to strengthen relationships with local communities, ensuring our curriculum and college strategy remain responsive to the needs of the region we serve.
Transparency and celebration
Our progress will be monitored, shared and celebrated. We will recognise the individuals and teams who contribute to making SECG a more inclusive place to learn and work.
These initiatives are not simply about meeting commitments. They reflect our ambition to create positive change and reinforce our role as a college group at the heart of our communities.
Together, we are building an environment where diversity is celebrated, inclusion is the norm and every member of our community can thrive.
Freedom to be yourself at college
We are committed to ensuring that your experience at college is free from discrimination, bullying, harassment and victimisation.
Every member of our college community should be treated with dignity and respect. We celebrate and value everyone, regardless of their:
- Race or ethnicity
- Colour or nationality
- Disability
- Age
- Religion or belief
- Gender or gender identity
- Sexual orientation
Equality means ensuring everyone has a fair opportunity to succeed. Diversity means recognising, respecting and valuing the differences that make each person unique.
It is important to us that every learner receives the support they need to participate fully in their course and become involved in all aspects of college life.
You will study in a vibrant, inclusive environment where individuality is valued and everyone's contribution matters.
We believe that embracing different cultures and perspectives brings benefits for everyone. It creates opportunities to learn from one another, share ideas, improve lives and develop rewarding careers.
