Course Overview

The T Level Foundation Programme in Health and Science is designed for learners who are interested in working in health and social care and want to develop their knowledge and skills before progressing to a T Level or other Level 3 qualifications. It is suitable for those who have completed a Level 1 course or who are already at an intermediate level and want to strengthen their understanding of the sector.

This transition course introduces learners to key concepts within health and social care through a mixture of assessments and practical learning. Learners explore topics such as communication, person‑centred approaches, mental health, infection control, legislation and the role of science in healthcare. Learning focuses on building confidence, professional awareness and the skills needed to progress into more advanced study.

The course also includes interview skills and a route‑based project, helping learners develop employability skills and understand different progression pathways within health and care. Learners complete an external work placement of 38 hours, providing valuable experience of real care environments and allowing them to apply their learning in practice.

This course is particularly well suited to learners who are re‑taking GCSE English and maths alongside their vocational studies. By the end of the programme, learners will have developed the skills, knowledge and experience needed to progress onto a Health and Social Care T Level or further Level 3 study, with a clearer understanding of expectations within the sector.

To study this course, you will need GCSE Maths at grade 3, GCSE English at grade 3, and GCSE Science at grade 2, preferably Core Science. You will also complete an introductory assessment at enrolment to assess your suitability for the course. Some existing knowledge or interest in the Health and Social Care sector is preferred. A clean enhanced DBS check is required, which will be completed in‑house at the college once you start the course.
Assessment for this course is carried out through two internal examinations, two controlled assessments, and four assignments, all set by tutors and internally assessed by qualified assessors.
This course is free to UK learners under 19 who are not in employment
