Level 2 Diploma in Preparation for Public Services

The Public Services Level 2 Diploma supports you to explore careers within the public services sector and develop an understanding of what is involved in joining these services. It is a full‑time Level 2 qualification and is suitable if you are interested in public service roles and want to build knowledge, confidence and essential skills for future progression. 

Throughout the course, you will study a broad range of public services topics that help you understand how different services operate and support communities. Learning focuses on developing teamwork, communication and problem‑solving skills through a mixture of classroom‑based learning and practical activities, including working as part of a team. You will explore subjects such as emergency incidents, crime and its impact on society, security, volunteering, and employment within uniformed public services. 

The course also includes sport and recreation and driving‑related awareness, helping you understand the physical and practical demands associated with public service roles. Functional skills or GCSE English and maths are included for those who have not yet achieved a grade 4, supporting your overall progression and employability. These sessions run alongside the main qualification to help strengthen essential literacy and numeracy skills. We expect all public services students to wear a uniform when attending college, reflecting the professional standards of the sector. You will also need suitable clothing for fitness and sports‑based units.

 By the end of the course, you will have developed a solid foundation of public services knowledge, practical skills and professional awareness. This qualification supports progression to Level 3 public services courses, further training or continued development towards a career within the public services sector.
