If you are motivated by a desire to support others and develop a deeper understanding of the human mind, this course represents the first step towards training as a qualified counsellor.
Designed for those interested in mental health and personal development, it offers an accessible introduction to counselling theory and practice, whether you are beginning a new career path or exploring a return to education. The course introduces how to work effectively with individuals experiencing mental health difficulties, while also developing insight into your own thoughts, behaviours and responses. Delivered over three hours a week, it provides a manageable and supportive entry point into further study. The Counselling Skills programme focuses on developing reflective and effective communication skills, encouraging learners to explore and challenge habitual patterns of relating in order to centre another individual’s frame of reference.
A strong emphasis is placed on self‑awareness and personal reflection through experiential learning activities. Theoretical approaches explored include psychodynamic theory, cognitive behavioural therapy, person‑centred counselling, Gestalt, and bereavement, alongside opportunities for skills practice that support both personal growth and professional development.
The cost of the course is £395. This is taught for 3 hours per week. Non-UK citizens will need to provide sufficient document/s confirming your right to live and study in the UK e.g. confirmation of settled status. Course fee includes the registration costs with AIM qualifications.
