Course Overview

The Level 2 Air Source Heat Pump Fundamentals course supports you to develop essential knowledge and practical understanding of air source heat pump systems used in domestic properties. It is suitable if you are working in, or progressing towards, roles within electrical, plumbing, heating or renewable energy sectors and want to build a foundation in heat pump technology.

During the course, you can explore how air source heat pump systems operate and how they are installed, commissioned, serviced, maintained and decommissioned. Learning focuses on understanding system design, interpreting technical specifications and recognising how heat pumps integrate with existing heating systems and controls.

You will also develop knowledge of electrical connections, control configurations and safe working practices when working with air source heat pump systems. The course introduces current industry standards and regulatory requirements, helping you understand how installations must comply with Building Regulations and relevant industry frameworks used within renewable heating. This course provides structured learning focused on real‑world application within a rapidly growing sector.

By the end of the course, you will have developed a clear understanding of air source heat pump fundamentals and the skills and knowledge that support progression into further training or continued professional development within renewable and sustainable heating technologies.

To study this course, you must be aged 18 and above, and want to develop your knowledge/competencies and understanding of air source heat pump installation.
