Course Overview

Our Football Academy Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport supports you to develop your football performance and understanding of the sports industry while working towards progression within sport‑related study. This course is suitable if you are passionate about football and want a programme that combines training, competition and academic learning. This course is lead by Steve Tilson, who has had a long established career in professional football both as a player and a manager. As part of the Football Academy, you will train three times per week and take part in weekly match days on Wednesdays. This structure helps you develop technical ability, teamwork and match awareness while experiencing the demands of a competitive football environment.

Learning is designed to reflect both performance and professional expectations within sport. Alongside football training, you will develop knowledge and skills across a range of sport and active leisure topics. This includes practical sport participation, nutrition for sports performance, fitness testing and training, and the development of personal fitness. You will also learn how to plan and lead sport or active leisure activities and develop coaching skills suitable for a range of settings. The course is led by experienced football and sports professionals and supports you to build discipline, confidence and commitment.

By the end of the programme, you will have developed your football performance, sport‑related knowledge and transferable skills, supporting progression to further study within the sports curriculum or continued development within sport and active leisure pathways.

To study this course you will need two GCSEs at grade 3 (grade D) or above, which must include Maths or English, or a Level 1 qualification. Applicants are also required to successfully attend an interview event and football trial.
