Course Overview

The Electric and Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement Level 3 Award is designed for learners working in the motor vehicle sector who want to develop higher‑level skills in maintaining and repairing electric and hybrid vehicles. It is suitable for technicians who are already working in the industry and are looking to expand their expertise to include low‑ and high‑voltage vehicle systems. 

Throughout the course, learners develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely on electric and hybrid vehicles while carrying out repair and replacement activities. A strong emphasis is placed on health and safety, helping learners understand industry regulations, risks and safe working practices when dealing with high‑energy electrical systems and electric drive train components. Learners gain experience in using technical information to diagnose faults and carry out repair tasks accurately. The course also develops skills in recording work completed and making appropriate recommendations based on findings, reflecting professional workshop practices and employer expectations. 

By the end of the course, learners will be able to demonstrate competence in repairing electric and hybrid vehicle systems safely and effectively. This Level 3 Award supports professional progression for technicians and helps them meet the growing demand for skilled electric and hybrid vehicle repair specialists across the motor industry. This course is delivered at our Stephenson Road campus.

To study at Level 3 you will need appropriate vehicle maintenance and repair knowledge and skills at Level 3 and Level 2 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle routine maintenance.
Assessment is in IMI practical and written tasks and confirms the learner’s knowledge of safe working practices and routine maintenance activities in line with IMI standards.

Successful candidates can progress to the Level 4 Award in the Diagnosis Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and components
