Course Overview
The Design and Verification of Electrical Installations course is intended for practising electricians who want to extend their skills beyond installation work and develop a deeper understanding of electrical design. It suits those who are already working in the industry and are looking to take on greater responsibility or progress into roles that involve planning, designing and verifying electrical systems.
During the course, learners build an understanding of how electrical installations are designed, constructed and commissioned. This includes exploring the relationship between statutory and non‑statutory requirements and how these influence electrical design, construction management and verification. Learners develop knowledge of the full design process, from initial planning through to completion, helping them understand how compliance, safety and performance are managed in professional practice.
The course also develops understanding of the fundamental principles behind protective systems used within electrical installations, as well as the factors that affect decisions around power sources and environmental technologies. This knowledge supports learners in making informed design choices that reflect the needs of different settings and installation requirements. Learning is focused on applying theory to practical design situations, ensuring skills are relevant and current.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to apply design and verification procedures for both single‑phase and poly‑phase electrical installations. This qualification supports progression into more advanced electrical roles and provides valuable professional development for electricians looking to broaden their expertise in electrical installation design and verification. This course is delivered at our new Clean Energy Centre at our Luckyn Lane campus.
