Vladyslava Zabielina

At University Centre South Essex, we understand that education is not just about gaining qualifications, it is about finding your voice, building resilience and shaping your future. Vladyslava’s story is a powerful example of how creativity can help you overcome challenges and open new opportunities.

Creativity Through Adversity

Vladyslava Zabielina is a recent graduate whose creative journey has been shaped by both passion and resilience.

Her work spans painting and graphic design, two disciplines that have allowed her to express herself, process personal experiences and develop a clear direction for her future career.

During a particularly difficult period, following the war in Ukraine and the loss of her home, Vladyslava returned to painting as a way to reconnect with her creativity. What began as a way to cope soon became a powerful form of expression.

“I turned to painting again, hoping to rediscover my passion and find something to focus on besides those overwhelming emotions.”

Through her artwork, she was able to channel her experiences into something meaningful, using creativity not only as an outlet but also as a way to share her story with others.

While studying at university, Vladyslava discovered a strong interest in visual communication and graphic design. This led to the development of a project that gained recognition from the International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD), an achievement that further strengthened her confidence and ambition.

“This project helped me understand that I was on the right path and made me more confident and ambitious in my goals.”

Balancing her studies alongside personal challenges and other commitments was not always easy. However, Vladyslava credits her progress to her determination, focus and the support network around her.

“The most important thing was staying hopeful and not giving up. I realised that I’ve become more confident not only in my work and abilities but also in the people around me.”

Her experience highlights the importance of resilience, not just in continuing through difficult times, but in growing stronger and more confident as a result.

Now, as she begins exploring career opportunities in the creative industries, Vladyslava remains optimistic about the future. She continues to develop her skills and is focused on building a career that reflects both her creativity and her experiences.

Her advice to others is simple but powerful:

“Stay curious. Try new things. Take risks. You are unique - make sure you know it and stay confident.”

Vladyslava’s journey is a reminder that creativity can be a powerful tool for growth and healing. With passion, resilience and support, it is possible to transform challenges into opportunities and move forward with confidence.
