From starting at Level 1, Jessie has consistently demonstrated a strong desire to succeed, engaging fully with every aspect of her learning and approaching each challenge with enthusiasm and determination. Over her time at college, she has developed into a confident, capable, and highly professional beauty therapist with a bright future ahead.
A supportive, positive presence in the classroom
Jessie is a valued member of her class, known for her friendly, professional manner and her willingness to support her peers. Her motivation and genuine passion for beauty therapy shine through in everything she does, helping to create an uplifting and encouraging learning environment. Her mature attitude and joy for her work have made her a positive influence within the group.
Remarkable personal and professional growth
One of the most impressive aspects of Jessie’s journey is her transformation since joining the college. Through hard work and a willingness to embrace guidance from her tutors, she has grown into a resilient, confident practitioner. Alongside her vocational studies, she successfully completed her GCSE English and undertook additional independent courses to broaden her skills and enhance her career prospects. This commitment to continuous improvement reflects her ambition and determination to succeed.
Building industry experience and a growing business
Jessie is already gaining valuable experience in the beauty industry, working part‑time in a local salon where she has built a busy client base and is trusted to manage the business’s social media presence. She has also launched her own self‑employed beauty business, Beauty By Jessie, demonstrating strong entrepreneurial skills and initiative. Her long‑term ambition is to continue expanding her knowledge across all areas of beauty therapy and eventually run her own successful salon.
A well‑deserved award
Reflecting on her achievement, Jessie said: “I feel quite shocked that I won. I was looking for a fresh start after a rocky time previously. I have really bad anxiety, and this course helped me overcome it. I’m not very academic, so the practical learning and hands‑on experience such as being on reception and opening beauty treatments to the public showed me a different side of learning that I loved. My favourite part of the course was massage; I loved body massage and learning all the new techniques. My greatest achievement is sticking to it and finishing the three years without giving up. I set up my own business in 2024, starting with lashes. I loved the confidence having lashes gave me, so I wanted to bring that to others. The college then gave me a wider range of things I could offer to clients. I would definitely recommend the college. I didn’t previously have a good relationship with teachers, but one tutor, Jo Somers, completely changed my opinion. She was my rock and gave me the oomph to finish my final year. She reminded me, ‘Whatever you say, you know you can do it.’ It’s been amazing, it’s been rocky, but I’ve come out the other side. I want to continue my business and eventually own my own shop.”
Jessie’s passion, resilience, and professionalism make her an outstanding ambassador for the college and a truly worthy Beauty Student of the Year.
