Celebrating Success 2026: Health and Social Care Student of the Year – Ella Hayes

A successful career in health and social care requires compassion, dedication and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of others. Ella Hayes has demonstrated all of these qualities throughout her studies at Thurrock College, earning recognition as Health and Social Care Student of the Year. Through her outstanding academic achievement, positive attitude and willingness to support both her peers and the wider community, Ella has established herself as a remarkable learner and an excellent ambassador for the Health & Social Care profession.

Ella Hayes has been nominated for Health and Social Care Student of the Year in recognition of her exceptional dedication, academic excellence and positive contribution to both the college and the wider community. She is an outstanding learner whose commitment to her studies consistently goes above and beyond expectations.

Ella regularly dedicates her own time to further study, demonstrating a depth of knowledge and understanding that reflects her determination to succeed. She sets ambitious goals and pursues them with resilience, maturity and a clear sense of purpose. Her exceptional work ethic and aspiration for excellence make her a role model within the Health & Social Care cohort.

A supportive, respected and inspiring presence in the classroom

Within the classroom, Ella is admired not only for her academic achievements but also for the encouragement and support she offers her peers. She demonstrates natural leadership qualities, helping to create a positive, inclusive learning environment where others feel confident to participate and succeed.

Kind, approachable and open‑minded, Ella treats everyone with respect and without judgement. Her ability to inspire those around her, through both her actions and her attitude has made a lasting impact on her fellow students.

Creativity and compassion in the community

A standout moment during Ella’s time at college showcased her creativity, empathy and community spirit. Using her artistic talents, she designed and produced beautiful Christmas cards for a local care home, bringing joy to residents during the festive season. This thoughtful gesture reflected not only her creativity but also the compassion and commitment to others that lie at the heart of the Health & Social Care profession.

Ella’s combination of academic ability, determination, kindness and commitment to helping others makes her a tremendous asset to the college. She consistently goes above and beyond expectations, demonstrating the values and qualities that define an exceptional Health & Social Care student.

Looking ahead: a future dedicated to caring for others

Ella will progress into the second year of her studies while continuing to pursue her ambition of building a career in the care sector. She hopes to begin her professional journey as a care assistant, gaining valuable experience as she works towards a rewarding future supporting others.

Reflecting on her achievement, Ella said: “I feel really proud and grateful to have won the award. It means a lot to have my hard work recognised, especially after putting so much effort into my studies and assignments this year. I would recommend South Essex College as the tutors are so supportive and friendly, and always willing to help. There are lots of opportunities to learn and gain new skills, no matter what course you want to take.”
