Chloe secured an exciting opportunity as an Apprentice Marketing Executive with the BBC in White City.
I studied Level 3 Interactive Digital Media, having previously started on a business course before deciding to follow my interest in digital content and marketing. I chose to study at South Essex Colleges Group because it offered the course I was looking for in a location that worked for me, as well as a supportive and flexible learning environment.
I applied for the BBC apprenticeship on Boxing Day in December 2022 after seeing the opportunity advertised. The selection process was highly competitive and lasted six months, involving multiple stages of interviews. Initially, there were five stages, but due to the strength of the final candidates, an additional stage was added. I successfully secured the role, which is a Level 4 Marketing Executive apprenticeship lasting 18 months, combining full-time work with one day a week of study.
Throughout the application process, I received consistent support from my tutors. They encouraged me at every stage and helped me prepare, offering guidance on key areas such as understanding values and presenting myself professionally. This support played an important role in helping me progress with confidence.
During my time at college, I enjoyed the balance between structure and creative freedom. While working towards the same outcomes as other students, I was able to shape my projects in a way that reflects my interests. For example, I chose to rebrand a cosmetics palette for my final project, while others explored different creative approaches. This flexibility allowed me to develop my skills in a way that felt relevant and engaging.
I also gained valuable work experience, creating content for a wellness company, which helped me build my portfolio and apply my learning in a real-world setting.
My confidence has grown significantly during her studies. I was recognised for my hard work and achievements, including winning awards such as ‘Who Wants to Be an Entrepreneur’ and Student of the Year in Business and Logistics. These experiences have helped reinforce my belief in my abilities and motivated me to keep progressing.
I am proud of how far I have come and I value the way the college supports and recognises students as individuals. That encouragement has played a key role in helping me reach this stage.
Looking ahead, I hope to continue developing my career in marketing, with ambitions to eventually start my own business focused on social media and content creation. I am also interested in progressing to further study at Levels 5 and 6 while continuing my journey with the BBC.
