A calm, compassionate and committed future Early Years practitioner
Hope Kay has been nominated for Early Years Student of the Year in recognition of her exceptional commitment, professionalism and personal growth throughout her studies at Thurrock. Now completing the second year of her T Level in Education and Early Years, Hope has consistently demonstrated a positive attitude towards learning and a genuine passion for working with children.
Over the past two years, she has shown remarkable development in confidence and capability, becoming a highly respected student both in the classroom and during her industry placement. Her maturity, reliability and dedication have made her a standout member of the cohort.
A supportive, friendly and valued presence
Hope is known for her calm, friendly and approachable nature. She has built strong relationships with her peers and plays an important role in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Always willing to help others, she offers encouragement and assistance whenever needed, contributing positively to college life and helping her classmates feel comfortable and confident.
A defining moment of maturity and compassion
One of the most memorable examples of Hope’s character occurred during a serious medical emergency involving another student. Throughout the incident, Hope remained composed, compassionate and responsible. She stayed with the student, provided reassurance, accompanied them to hospital and kept college staff informed about their wellbeing following treatment.
Her maturity and genuine care for others were evident throughout, reflecting the qualities that make her such an exceptional future Early Years practitioner.
Outstanding performance in industry placement
Hope has excelled in her industry placement at a day care nursery, receiving outstanding feedback from both placement staff and college assessors. Her professionalism, dedication and natural ability to work with young children have made a lasting impression. As a result of her excellent performance, she has already been offered a full‑time position at the nursery upon completion of her qualification.
Looking ahead: a bright future in Early Years education
Hope has always aspired to build a career in Early Years education, and she is now preparing to take the next exciting step into employment when she completes her T Level in June 2026. She is a fantastic ambassador for Thurrock and an inspiring example of how hard work, compassion and determination lead to success.
Reflecting on her achievement, Hope said: “I’m really happy with myself. I didn’t expect it, I’m not an outgoing person, so I thought they would pick someone more outgoing. I’m so proud of myself. I’ve always been interested in childcare. Thurrock felt different from school, and I was excited for that. The best thing about my course is the tutors as I love learning. I love that it’s a T Level and I got to go on placement, so it’s not just college, it’s real experience. It’s been amazing because it’s landed me a job in a nursery in Corringham. The college picked the placement, and I wouldn’t have had that experience or job without them. My greatest achievement is securing the placement. I would definitely recommend the college and have recommended it to my friends.”
Hope’s compassion, professionalism and dedication make her a truly deserving Early Years Student of the Year.
Hope’s journey is a wonderful example of how dedication, kindness and hard work can create exciting opportunities for the future. From growing in confidence and supporting her peers to excelling in her industry placement and securing employment before completing her qualification, she has consistently demonstrated the qualities needed to succeed in the Early Years sector. Her caring nature, professionalism and commitment to helping others make her a worthy recipient of the Early Years Student of the Year award. We are incredibly proud of everything Hope has achieved and look forward to seeing her continue to make a difference as she begins her career in Early Years education.
