A motivated, resilient and ambitious business student
Charlie Curtis has demonstrated exceptional dedication throughout his Business T Level, making him a thoroughly deserving recipient of Business Student of the Year. With an outstanding 99% attendance record with his only absence due to issues with his cochlear implant, Charlie has shown remarkable reliability, resilience and commitment. He consistently approaches his studies with enthusiasm, determination and a clear desire to achieve his very best.
Professionalism and initiative in the workplace
Charlie’s motivation extends far beyond the classroom. During his industrial placement with Holiday Inn Southend Airport, he showed professionalism, curiosity and a strong willingness to learn. He actively sought feedback to improve his performance and demonstrated a proactive approach to developing his understanding of the hospitality industry.
A standout moment in Charlie’s journey was his initiative in securing his own work placement. As part of his 315‑hour requirement, he independently identified a local hotel, contacted the hiring manager through LinkedIn, and successfully arranged his placement. His confidence and determination resulted in a highly successful experience and glowing feedback from his supervisor.
A supportive and valued member of the group
Charlie is known for his friendly, positive attitude and his willingness to support his peers. He has built excellent relationships within his cohort and contributes to a welcoming, collaborative learning environment. His maturity and teamwork skills have made him a respected member of the group.
A strong foundation for a future in hotel management
Charlie’s ambition is to pursue a career in hotel management, either through an apprenticeship or full‑time employment. His professionalism, reliability and proactive approach to his development provide an excellent foundation for success in the hospitality sector.
Reflecting on his achievement, Charlie said: “I’m 18 and completed the T Level in Business. I loved the work experience aspect which meant learning the technical knowledge of management and then applying it at the Holiday Inn in Southend. Choosing a T Level instead of A levels means you get work experience and a newer qualification that employers really like. The 315 hours of work have helped me so much, and I highly recommend it. Winning feels amazing and shows me that hard work and good attendance pay off. I’m now looking for a job and working my way up into management.”
Charlie’s determination, professionalism and ambition make him an outstanding ambassador for the college and a truly worthy Business Student of the Year.
Charlie's journey is a fantastic example of how hard work, determination and a positive attitude can create opportunities for future success. From securing his own industry placement and applying his classroom learning in a real workplace to building strong professional relationships and developing valuable management skills, he has consistently gone above and beyond throughout his studies. His ambition to progress into hotel management, combined with his reliability and drive to succeed, make him a worthy recipient of the Business Student of the Year award. We are incredibly proud of Charlie's achievements and look forward to seeing him continue to progress as he builds a successful career in the hospitality industry.
