Determination that goes beyond expectations
From the very beginning of his programme, Tomas approached every aspect of his learning with a positive mindset and a strong work ethic. He was consistently eager to expand his knowledge and improve his technical ability, impressing both college staff and his employer.
His dedication is evident in the lengths he goes to in order to support his workplace. On multiple occasions, Tomas has completed a full day at college and then returned straight to work to tackle outstanding tasks. This level of responsibility and commitment sets him apart as a model apprentice.
Learning beyond the classroom
Outside of his apprenticeship, Tomas is actively involved in off‑road motorsport. This hands‑on experience has further strengthened his practical skills and broadened his understanding of vehicle performance and mechanics. His willingness to learn in every environment highlights his initiative, self‑motivation, and commitment to continuous professional development.
He shared: “I didn’t expect to win the award. I do my apprenticeship at Stephenson Road campus and also at a garage. It was the only college in the area offering motor vehicle courses, which really appealed to me, especially with the excellent facilities. What I enjoy most is that the staff are incredibly helpful, the workshops are well equipped, and the tutors are extremely knowledgeable. I love that it’s a hands‑on course. I plan to continue and pursue my Level 3 apprenticeship at the college.”
Resilience that inspires others
One of Tomas’s most impressive achievements has been his resilience throughout his apprenticeship. Working with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), he has continued to make consistent progress with confidence and determination. He has become a valued member of both his college cohort and workplace team, demonstrating maturity, perseverance, and professionalism at every stage.
