Student to compete in semi-final of L’Oreal competition

A South Essex College hairdressing student has made it through to the semi-final of a nationwide competition.

Maddie Emmons from Southend entered the L’Oreal Colour Trophy 2019 by submitting a portfolio of her work and has now been selected to showcase her talents at the Eastern Region semi-final on Monday in Cambridge.

The 18-year-old has come up with a current, trendy style which focuses on balayage – a freehand hair colouring technique that gives a blended natural look with no harsh or obvious regrowth lines.

Maddie, who studies on the Hairdressing Level 2 Diploma course at the College’s Southend Campus, said she was looking forward to the competition.

She said: “I love working with colour because you can really experiment with different looks. The competition is a great way to develop my skills and whatever the outcome it will be a fantastic experience.”
