Course Overview
The Media Broadcast and Production T Level supports you to develop practical skills and professional knowledge needed to work in the media industry. It is suitable if you have a general interest in media production and want a course that combines classroom learning with real industry experience while preparing you for further study or progression into media‑related roles.
Throughout the course, you will build skills across a wide range of creative media contexts. Learning focuses on media content creation, helping you understand how ideas are developed, planned, produced and presented for different audiences and platforms.
You will:
- Explore how media industries operate and what is expected in professional production environments
- Develop practical skills in areas such as cinematography, scriptwriting, film editing using industry‑standard software, audio production and podcasting
The course also covers promotional campaigns, graphic design, article writing and copywriting, supporting you to understand how media content is created and marketed across different formats.
As with all T Levels, a substantial industry placement forms a key part of the programme, allowing you to apply your learning in a real working environment and gain insight into professional media production. There are opportunities to explore specific areas of interest within media broadcast and production, helping you shape your direction for future progression.
By the end of the course, you will have developed a broad skill set, industry awareness and a portfolio of work that supports progression into higher education, apprenticeships or continued training within the media and creative industries.
To study this course, you will need four GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above, which must include Maths and English, or a Level 2 qualification.
You will be asked to provide evidence of your ability in the subject which could be in the form of a portfolio, and must successfully attend an interview event.
This course is free to UK learners under 19 who are not in employment.
On completion of this course, you can progress into higher education, including degree study at University Centre South Essex, such as the BA (Hons) in Television Production or BA (Hons) in Creative Media Production and Promotion.
