Course Overview

The Electrical Installation Apprenticeship Level 3 is designed for learners who want to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed for a career as an installation or maintenance electrician. It is suitable for those working in the electrical industry who want to gain a recognised qualification while building practical experience on the job.

Delivered as a day‑release programme, apprentices attend college one day per week to complete both theoretical and practical training. Throughout the course, learners develop an understanding of the principles, practices and legislation that apply to electrical systems. They gain hands‑on experience installing wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment within buildings, reflecting real workplace tasks.

The course also focuses on fault diagnosis and correction, helping apprentices develop problem‑solving skills and technical confidence. Learners build knowledge of planning and maintaining electrical systems, alongside a strong focus on health and safety, environmental considerations and wiring regulations, which are essential for safe and compliant working practices.

By the end of the apprenticeship, learners will have developed the competence and confidence needed to work effectively as an electrician. This qualification supports progression within the electrical industry and provides a strong foundation for long‑term employment and further professional development. This course is delivered at our Luckyn Lane campus.

You must also hold GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above, or Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications in English and Maths, to ensure you are prepared for the academic and workplace demands of the apprenticeship.
This course is assessed through an Apprenticeship Standard programme which is occupation focused and concentrates on the relevant knowledge skills and behaviours required to complete the programme successfully.

This course is free to apprentices, as the cost is paid by your employer Large companies can fund the course using their apprenticeship levy. SMEs can access government funding to subsidise the cost by 95%.

Following the course you can register as an Engineering Technician by the Engineering Council, pursue higher level Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities within the industry, or progress to management level within the industry.
