Course Overview
This Level 3 Advanced course is a mid level accounting qualification designed for learners who want to build on their existing knowledge and progress their career in accounting.
It provides in depth coverage of more complex accounting tasks and helps develop the skills expected in professional finance roles. You will study a wide range of advanced accounting areas, including financial accounting and the preparation of financial statements, management accounting techniques, tax processes for businesses and business awareness.
The course also covers advanced bookkeeping, final accounts, VAT, costing techniques, ethical practices for accountants and the use of accounting software through spreadsheet training. Alongside technical knowledge, you will strengthen your business communication and lifelong learning skills, applying what you learn within a wider professional context.
On successful completion, you will achieve the AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting. This internationally recognised qualification is highly valued by employers and supports progression within the accounting profession.
This flexible course is delivered by South Essex Colleges Group in partnership with Mindful Education and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom.
To study this course, you will need GCSEs at grade 4 or C in both English and maths, or an equivalent qualification. You must also have a sound understanding of bookkeeping principles to undertake the AAT Level 3 programme.
Holding an AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting or Bookkeeping is advantageous, but not essential. If you do not hold an AAT Level 2 qualification, you will be required to complete the AAT Skill check to demonstrate that you are working at the appropriate Level 3 standard.
Online study includes award‑winning video lessons available on demand, allowing you to choose when and where you study using a phone, tablet or computer. Lessons typically last around 45 minutes and are supported by animations, practice questions, downloadable learning materials and interactive case studies.
Learners should expect to complete approximately 5 to 6 hours of independent online study each week. On campus, you will attend regular classes with a college tutor who reviews your online learning and provides guidance on progress and assessment. Discussion with tutors and fellow learners helps reinforce key concepts while offering the support and motivation that comes from learning as part of a group.
The skills and knowledge you will gain throughout this qualification will qualify you for roles including Finance Officer Assistant Accountant and Bookkeeper.
You will also be eligible for AAT Bookkeeper (AATQB) status giving you the option to work as a freelance bookkeeper.
