Firefighters’ visit ignites students’ interest in service

Firefighters visited South Essex College’s Thurrock Campus to deliver an educational talk to students.

The crew from Grays Fire Station visited the College to speak to students studying on the public services programme, many of whom are looking to forge a career in the emergency services sector.

The firefighters spoke to the group about their careers, entry to the service, life in the fire service and general information about their role in society.

Steve Watson, Public Services Lecturer, said it was a fantastic opportunity for the students.

He said: “The speakers gave the students a fantastic insight into what it takes to get into the service and the route they need to consider.

“The talk provided an excellent link between the service and the College to enable the students to hear about real life in the service and use this to complete their coursework.”
