A Level 3 user can make use of predefined or commonly used IT tools for activities most of which are complex and non-routine, you will be able to devise solutions in the use of IT tools in order to improve productivity. You will take considerable responsibility and autonomy, and be prepared to offer support and advice to others.

The qualification provides basic level skills and knowledge that could lead to further education in IT or related areas, as well as underpinning other educational sectors. It can offer those moving into their first job roles the confidence to work effectively with ICT and deal with tasks that are straightforward or routine.

With guidance you will be able to operate information and communication software or hardware with knowledge and understanding in the topics you undertake.

Entry Requirements

  • Relevant experience or a Level 2 qualification in Information Technology
  • Successful interview with course tutor at enrolment

Course Structure

Full-time, 25 hours per week, 10 weeks

You will need to complete the following six units to achieve the qualification:

  • Improving productivity using IT
  • Using collaborative technologies
  • Database software
  • Multimedia software
  • Spreadsheet software
  • Understand the potential of IT

Assessment & Feedback

Portfolio of evidence (paper or electronic)

  • Scenario based assignments
  • Using 'expert witnesses' from within an organisation
  • Observation
  • Professional discussion
  • A combination of the above

Course Cost

Adult, full_time: FREE

This fully-funded course is available to any adult aged 24 and over who wants to achieve their first full level 3 qualification, which is equivalent to an advanced technical certificate or diploma, or two full A levels.

19 to 23 year olds will continue to be eligible for their first full level 3 via the adult education budget, and for any additional qualifications made available through this offer.
