This course is for anyone who wishes to learn about the responsibilities relating to food handling and the potential dangers of certain foods and food groups.

What's covered?

  • the law in relation to safe food handling
  • characteristics and consequences of food allergies and intolerances
  • procedures for identifying and controlling contamination from allergenic ingredients
  • procedures for the accurate communication of allergen information to consumers
  • common symptoms of allergic reactions and food intolerances

How will my work be assessed?

A 15 question multiple choice examination. Learners are required to achieve a mark of at least 9 to pass.

What can I do after this?

On successful completion of course learners could progress onto a range of Food Safety qualifications offered at South Essex College. Learners will also be able to work safely with food in the retail or hospitality industry.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
