The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years.

Overview

Upon achievement of this qualification it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators.

Direct observations must continue to be used to assess competence with the age range the learner is working with but can be complemented with expert witness testimonies, reflective accounts including prior knowledge and professional discussions to assess knowledge, skills and competence outside of this age range.

During placement, learners will need support from a professional within the Real Work Environment.

What's covered?

In order to achieve the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) students must gain a total of 61 credits. To do this they must achieve 23 mandatory units from Group A.

To aid holistic delivery and assessment the units are  structured around the following three themes:

  • Theme 1: Health and well-being
    5 units within Theme 1
  • Theme 2: Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
    5 units within Theme 2
  • Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness
    13 Units within Theme 3, including a mandatory Longitudinal Study. This will be internally assessed.

350 Placement hours are expected as competence in a real work environment is essential.

How will my work be assessed?

  • assessed in the workplace on your practical skills
  • complete a portfolio of evidence which will be continually assessed
  • undertake independent assignments

What can I do after this?

Progression to job roles as per the following:

  • Practitioner in day nurseries
  • Practitioner in nursery schools
  • Practitioner in reception classes in primary schools
  • Pre-school worker
  • Learners must be at least 18 years old and employed in suitable setting
  • All learners who achieve an Early Years Educator qualification will need GCSE English and maths A*-C or level 2 Functional Skills Maths and English
  • This is to enable you to be counted in the ratios at level 3 in childcare settings
  • 350 Placement hours are expected as  competence in a real work environment is essential
