It’s an exciting time of change for Basildon and for its young people's hopes and dreams. After the College gained approval for its new town centre site in the heart of Basildon in January, the housing scheme for Basildon at Dry Street and building on the existing College site has also just gained outline planning approval.
Angela O’Donoghue, Principal and Chief Executive of South Essex College, said: “We are now a step closer to the College moving from its current site at Nethermayne in 2015-2016, with College land being sold to housing developers.
“Monies raised from the eventual sale will help fund our exciting new campus that will help deliver a whole range of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) related courses, a higher education offer of degree level courses - the first time we have ever done so in Basildon - and A-levels, again will be another first for South Essex College in Basildon.
“In the wake of Seevic leaving the town centre the new South Essex College building is an essential addition to ensure young people and adults get the education - and ultimately employment opportunities - that they deserve. The College won't just be in the heart of the town centre - we also want to be in the hearts and minds of the community - and we look forward to playing a leading role in the prosperity of Basildon for generations to come.”
The current Basildon Campus is looking forward to welcoming students for this coming September at Nethermayne, its final open event of the year is on Tuesday 18th June, 5pm - 8pm.
