RHS Hyde Hall visit inspires fashion students

Fashion Design students from South Essex College University Centre visited RHS Hyde Hall gardens as part of their degree project.

The BA (Hons) year one and two classes were able to gather inspiration for their garment creations from the natural elements such as the structural shapes of trees and plants.

The group was treated to a presentation by Louise Chamberlain, RHS Hyde Hall Educational Officer and Textile Designer. She introduced the students to new fabric developments made from plant materials including pineapple and strawberry plant roots.

Student Raney Hussein said: “We were amazed by the variety of plants. I’d love to come back, one day isn’t enough to see everything!”

The class got to take part in a series of short print and drawing workshops.

Programme Leader Kirsti McLean said “The students were so excited by what they saw, their enthusiasm for the drawing and print activities means their project work will be greatly enriched by the experience.”
