Industry week inspires students

Higher Education Art & Design students at South Essex College benefitted from talks and workshops by professionals as part of Industry Week.

The event was organised for degree students, but Further Education students were also invited to take advantage of the week to find out about career options and studying at degree level.

Guest speakers included Focal Point Gallery Coordinator Ruth Hazel, Award Winning Film Director & Producer Emily Corcoran, and David Longshaw, Fashion Designer & Illustrator.

Graphic Design, Fine Art and Interior Design experts also held interactive workshops for students.

The purpose of the Industry Week was for students to get an insight into industries related to their course from real life professionals. Each guest provided a talk about their work and gave tips on how to succeed in the industry before answering questions from the eager students.

Lecturer Tammy Ellis said the week was a fantastic way for students to get real knowledge from those working in the industry.

She said: “It was fantastic for the students to interact with people who are working within the industry. Their insight and tips of how to succeed in the world of work will be a huge benefit to the students when they leave the College to find employment. I am extremely grateful to all of our guest speakers for giving up their time to come in.”
