Learner Support

Every learner at South Essex College has access to our team of Client Advisers who are here to offer help, advice or just a friendly face, with any issues you may have about your course, finances or personal issues.

We’re with you every step of the way

From the moment you start considering South Essex College as an option, our aim is to support you throughout the duration of your studies with the highest quality information, advice and guidance. Our Learner Services team has been assessed for, and attained, Matrix and RoQA quality standards for information, advice and guidance.

After you have applied to the College you will receive a pre-arrival information pack providing advice and guidance on a range of issues including funding, accommodation and working whilst studying.

We are involved in your induction, and provide a range of information at this point and during Freshers’ Fair, to let you know about our services, as well as other useful contacts for you and other services you may require during your time with us.

At enrolment, you will also receive a Learner Handbook which outlines the procedures and academic policies relevant to our Higher Education courses. Trained counsellors are available to provide confidential support and to offer advice and contact details for specialist support groups and organisations. There is also a College Chaplain who supports staff and learners from all faiths/religious groups.

Childcare

Part-time learners with children of pre-school age may be entitled to a grant from the Access to Learning Fund to cover childcare costs. The College’s Southend Campus has its own nursery, Jungle Cats, which is available to the children of staff and learners who are aged between three months and school age.
