South Essex College is committed to equality of opportunity for all learners
and employees of the College and aims to create and maintain an environment where
all are treated solely on the basis of their merits, ability and potential.
All centres and areas are easily accessible to wheelchair users and lifts are provided
for access above ground level.
The College has robust systems in place for assessing individual’s needs; this includes
both hidden and physical disabilities. Support and teaching staff work together
to meet the needs of learners with disabilities and difficulties to ensure access
to the curriculum, equipment and physical resources.
In partnership with DSA Assessors, we can advise on the availability of a range
of equipment to meet learners’ requirements including laptops with voice activated
software and a wide variety of adaptive technology. We hold study skills sessions
to help students with planning their time, literacy, numeracy and essay writing
skills.
Our well qualified and experienced team of advisers facilitate support for students
with a variety of disabilities; these include, hearing impairments, dyslexia, mobility
issues and visual impairments. The staff engage in ongoing professional developmet
to ensure their knowledge and skills are up to date. Additional support may be available
to students through the Disabled Students Allowances (DSAs).
