Support for Learners with Disabilities

South Essex College is committed to equality of opportunity for all learners and employees of the College and aims to create an environment where all are treated solely on the basis of their merits, ability and potential.

The College has robust systems in place for assessing an individual’s needs; this includes both hidden and physical disabilities.

Support and teaching staff work together to meet the needs of learners with disabilities and learning difficulties to ensure access to the curriculum, equipment and physical resources.

In partnership with DSA Assessors, we can advise on the availability of a range of equipment to meet learners’ requirements including laptops with voice-activated software and a wide variety of adaptive technology. We hold study skills sessions to help learners with planning their time, as well as improving literacy, numeracy and essay writing.

Our well-qualified and experienced team of advisors facilitate support for learners with a variety of disabilities; these include, hearing impairments, dyslexia, mobility issues and visual impairments.

The staff engages in on-going professional development to ensure that their knowledge and skills are up-to-date.

Additional support may be available to learners through the Disabled Students Allowances (DSA).

For a copy of our disability statement which gives full information about the type of support and facilities available to learners with particular learning difficulties or disability, Please call Learner Services on 01702 220500.
