Local Authority support

If you are under 19, live more than three miles away from the College and are studying your course with your most local education provider, you can apply to your Local Authority for a bus pass.

Please note that travel support is subject to annual review by Local Authorities.

For students attending the Thurrock Campus in Woodview you may be offered a contract bus service by Thurrock Council or Essex County Council if your application is successful. The exact routes and timetables of these buses are available Here and Here

For students attending the Basildon Campus you may be offered a contract bus service by Thurrock Council if your application is successful. The exact routes and timetables of these buses are available Here

The College Travel Bursary

If you are aged 16-18, live more than three miles away from the College and you have either been refused travel support from your Local Authority or can prove that a college or training provider closer to your home offer the same course you are studying with us, we may (subject to the availability of funds) contribute to your costs of travelling to College through the College Travel Bursary depending on your household income. If your application is successful, a contribution will be made based on the distance you travel to College.

Please note, the Travel Bursary is a limited fund and is subject to review. No guarantee of support is made.

Ensignbus Travel Discount

South Essex College (Thurrock Campus) and Thurrock Learning Campus are included in a transport discount offered by the Ensign Bus Company in Grays. The scheme allows eligible learners the opportunity to purchase a bus pass which will give them unlimited travel on all Ensignbus services in Thurrock, apart from X80 and X81, and all First Bus services in Basildon (such as the 100 & 200), Stanford le Hope and Wickford areas, (during term time only) for £36 over a four week period (renewable every four weeks). This discount offer is only available to learners who:

  • Are aged between 16 & 18 as at 31st August 2012
  • Are attending a full time FE course
