Clearing 2011
What is Clearing?
Higher Education Applicants who have not managed to secure a place at university or college for the coming academic year can apply through the Clearing system.
Clearing begins in August and can help people find suitable vacancies on higher education courses if their preferred course was oversubscribed or they did not
get the necessary grades.
Clearing can be a difficult time for applicants and parents – but you’re not alone. Over 30,000 applicants a year secure a Higher Education place through clearing,
so if you’re willing to be flexible and you have reasonable exam results, there is still a good chance you will find another course. The most important thing is DON'T PANIC.
What if I’ve not applied to UCAS but still want to start a higher education course this year?
You are not too late to apply for 2011 entry, you have until mid-September. Please visit www.ucas.co.uk/clearing
If you haven't already applied for a degree you can become eligible to enter clearing by joining the UCAS system.
For courses on offer at the College please visit www.ucas.com institution code S43 South Essex College.
Who can use Clearing?
You can only use Clearing if you are eligible. You are eligible for Clearing if you have applied in the current application year and if:
- you have not withdrawn your application;
- you hold no offers; or
- your offers have not been confirmed because you have not met the conditions (e.g.
you have not achieved the required grades); or
- you have declined your offers or not responded by the due date; or
- your offers have not been confirmed, and you have declined any alternative offers
from the same university; or
- you have applied after 30 June (1 June for Route B art and design courses). If we
received your application after these dates, we will not have sent it to any universities
and colleges.
The majority of South Essex College degrees are validated by the University of Essex and some by University of East London - so you
will receive a University of Essex Degree or University of East London Degree.
Course vacancies published on this site in clearing are from mid-August until late
September.
